We have all seen movies such as Crocodile Dundee and other movies showing the rough and tough Australian. There are some Australians who may fit this stereotype, and there are others who are the classic “surfer dude”, but these are in no way the “classic” Australian. They are a country of immigrants (both legal and illegal) that bring their own culture to the city.
One thing that has really fascinated me during our week in Australia are the phrases that many of the locals use. On the hike to Manly beach we passed a park ranger and I simply asked him how he was doing and he responded, “no drama mate.” It was just a simple way to say that there was nothing wrong and he couldn’t complain about how the day was. I have actually begun to adopt this phrase as well because it really is a great day when it is drama free.
